Postdoctoral Fellowship – United States Studies Centre, University of Sydney
The United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney invites applications for its 2010-2011 class of Postdoctoral Fellows.
The fellowship program, directed by Professor Margaret Levi of the United States Studies Centre and the University of Washington, is designed to bring to Sydney a cohort of the world’s rising scholarly leaders working on the United States in the humanities, social sciences and related professional disciplines.
The Centre will award up to six Fellowships for a 12-month period commencing on 1 September 2010. Fellowships are open to scholars who have a PhD awarded no earlier than 1 January 2003 as well as doctoral students who will be awarded their PhDs by the end of 2010.
Fellows are expected to be in residence and to complete a major research project as well as to engage with students and scholars in Sydney and around Australia during the fellowship period. Salaries commence from AU $82,112 and will be commensurate with experience and current employment.
Applications close on 27 February 2010. Late applications will not be accepted.

Scholarship Description
The School of Civil Engineering at The University of Sydney offers a scholarship for a highly qualified student to undertake full-time research leading to a PhD in Environmental Fluid Mechanics. This research project is aimed to investigate the dynamics of biomineral suspended particle matter (SPM) in turbulently-stirred waters, with a particular focus on the interaction between microparticles made of cohesive mineral and micro-organisms in nutrient-controlled conditions.
The PhD candidate is expected to have a strong background in fluid mechanics, physics or mathematics, and be interested in multidisciplinary approaches involving hydrology, biogeochemistry, and nutrient cycling. This opportunity is for commencement in 2010 Semester 1. Both local and international students are welcome to apply, and international student tuition fees will be covered as part of this scholarship. Applicants must also apply for University-wide scholarships where eligible.
